Three wheels, 500+ horses sets this trike apart from all others By Sean Catalanotto Starting at just over $35,000, the Boss Hoss C – 9 502 carries with it a liquid cooled, 4 stroke, V8 engine that will carry the motorcycle enthusiast rocketing past any argument contesting his desire to spend that much on a motorcycle. The unique three-wheel positioning gives the driver the feeling of better control as it cruises along, being carried by more than 500 horsepower. The transmission is a three-speed automatic with reverse.
From fairly early in its history, Boss Hoss has sold trikes with rear ends designed to look like smaller facsimiles of Chevrolet Corvettes, ‘57 Chevys, ‘32 Low-boy hot rods, or other distinctive cars. At some point, the Corvette rear end was discontinued and replaced with a 2000 Sierra truck rear end. As of 2006, the trikes have a new three-speed transmission that takes advantage of the extra stability and rear axle of a trike configuration. Sorry Corvette, but the Sierra truck is just safer. Despite a car-sized 8.5 U.S. gallon gas tank, the bikes only get motorcycle-like distance on a single tank, due to 25 mile per gallon maximum gas mileage for the small block and 18 mile per gallon maximum gas mileage for the big block. The trikes have an additional 3.5 U.S. gallons of reserve, which is a plus for long distance trips. Overall, Boss Hoss motorcycles are rated very highly for engine performance. Current models are also rated very highly for their aesthetics. The extra cargo area in the back gives a greater appeal to bikers with a long distance excursion in mind. The intensity of having the defined wheelbase, massive engine thrust and extreme horsepower under you sets the expert motorcycle driver from amatuer driver. Clearly, this is an extreme motorcycle for an extreme driver. |
